The superlumens setting is another cool option from the maker of the most popular light ballast, Lumatek. But what does it do?

Question: What does the super lumes setting on Lumatek ballasts actually do?

Answer: It puts out more watts than the ballast is rated at. So if you have a 1000W Lumatek ballast, at 100% on the dimmable dial it will put out 1000W. If you put the dial on superlumens it will then put out more, 1000 + some additional amount of watts (I don’t know how much more).

Use this feature with caution and probably only if you know what you are doing. Bulbs are rated for 1000W (or whatever size you are using with your Lumatek), so giving them more than that could decrease their lifespan.

The 20% more lumens advertisement of Lumatek does not require you to use the superlumens setting as Lumatek was advertising 20% more before they offered the dimmable ballasts with that superlumens option. How many more lumens is it with the superlumes setting on?

Summary: The superlumens setting is a great tool to have if you need extra light power. But use with caution as we don’t know how good it is for a bulb to always get more wattage than it is rated for.
